Optiver killed it in 2014
Optiver reported a record profit of € 246.9 million over 2014. This is better than the previous record from 2008 (€228 million) and once again they are the smartest kids in the room. They’ve beaten rival trading firms. Didn’t really come as a big surprise. Apart from an informed comment on this website, even traders from IMC Financial Markets realized their record year would be improved by Optiver.
Settlement corresponds with two weeks of trading
Yesterday’s settlement of $17 million with three groups of investors in the Hammergate case corresponds with two weeks of trading. We need to wait for the release of the full annual report. Yet, CEO Paul Hilgers has told the Financieele Dagblad less than 10% of the profit has been earned in the Amsterdam office. The headcount rose above the 800 people. Most of the 70 new hires employed in the USA or in Asia.
Optiver value around €3.5 bln
The graph includes rivals IMC Financial Markets, Virtu and Flow Traders. If Flow Traders will be valued at €1 billion, this would suggest the value of Optiver would be €3.5 billion. The results of Virtu have been translated to Euros with a fixed EUR/USD rate of 1.12. Not perfect, but it will give you an idea.
first, well done, congrats
thank you japan and HK
I can’t find Tibra on the chart, where is it ?
Tibra is there but you can’t see them because the min value of the y-axis is 0
tibra would be around 75% of flow result, about 50 mln last year. Not incredible, not bad either.
which markets are the cash cows for Optiver? Good to know for IMC.
So all the cash is made in Asia, so much for the rubbishing of “lazy Aussies ” on this site over the years
why does making money and being lazy have to be mutually exclusive?
wouldn’t $17 million with three groups of investors in the Hammergate case corresponds with say three weeks of trading and not two?
Oh oh. Time for IMC to investigate their employees to know why they did not match or beat Optiver. Call the lawyers and let the BS begin.
The cash cow markets for Optiver are continental China, India and the US. IMC is also present on all these markets.
well buddy, if you can be lazy and make good money – you are a lucky man
optiver master race
anybody got more specifics on how much volumes are flowing through in India, all this pnl talk is little counter intuitive to the dynamics of that country
Shit loads
Can anyone share what bonuses were like for development staff this year at Optiver / IMC?
are there other blogs similar to amsterdamtrader? (say for more US centric companies)
Similar to amsterdamtrader? NO. Jack is one of a kind.
If you’re looking for US centric, check out Wallstreet oasis. But there are mainly wannabe daytraders and college dropouts looking for a shortcut to “models and bottles”. The usual how-do-I-get-rich-like-really-really-quick?
this blog is pretty useless, and jack censors even whatever little dribbles in, yes he is one a kind
I can assure you that Optiver makes close to no money in India (I haven’t heard of anyone that does) China/HK/Japan/USA are the big ones.
Getting the biggest piece of the Chinese downticks. Kospi not the big gold mine it used to be.
of course they make no money in india, none of the financial types can do, because the competition is so cut throat over there
It’s not the competition, it’s the taxes. It’s what Europe will turn into if they start with transaction taxes.
What kind of transaction taxes are there India ?
is the hammer tool back in prod? Time for some speedboats and laptop porn!
