It’s a small world after all
Former director of the AEX Optiebeurs, Alan van Griethuysen, joined the alternative derivative exchange TOM. The news was announced today by the Twitter account of @TheOrderMachine. Usually a rather slow and dull twitter account – TOM is as internet savvy as my grandmother – but this time they brought some news. In their hurry they even posted his cell phone number. Not too smart, they didn’t even bother to take the unblurred screenshot offline.
Alan van Griethuysen started to work for the AEX Optiebeurs from November 1979, when the famous Tjerk Westerterp was still at the helm. Van Griethuysen became the director of the AEX Optiebeurs in the 2000, and was executive director at Euronext Liffe. The exchange became an international political battlefield, and he lost his job in 2012. Working for three decades at the derivative exchange, and excellent in maintaining his network : he knows everybody in the business.
Anyway – from now on he’ll be working for TOM as freelancer on business development. Good catch for TOM, as they certainly could use some more knowledge of running a derivative exchange. Copy/paste every press release from Euronext Liffe is definitely cheap, but can’t be considered the most viable business model. Maybe we’ll even witness new option products on TOM.
first,
who do you think is going to crank call alan, being biz dev he probably hands out his card half a dozen time each time he goes into a meeting room
I heard Tibra is broke
define broke
All you need now is for Wim den Hartog to join TOM and then you really have the ultimate team
TOM= The Order of Muppets
leave hartog and tom alone, make your own genius version of tom if you think you are so good
and of course you can find your own genius version of hartog to run it for you and print you mios
who is Wim den Hartog ?
Tibra’s nye party was a miserable occasion. They surely don’t have extra cash on hands now.
how many people at tibra party and how much was the cash outlay?
hartog is gs ops kind-of md who was hired to run imc americas but was laid-off after a short stint, google him, there’s plenty on this forum too
Tibra’s party was good. Please dont spread unnecessary rumours. Broke news is unnecessary
it’s totally necessary for people who have special love for tibra
TOM is the copy cat of the financial markets 2013
can you elaborate more on that?
Tibra is down to 28 people in Bondi office, from 103. That should say something about how the company’s ambitions are going. Eclipse will have more employees in Sydney than Tibra soon at this rate.
Someone at Deutsche is going to have a really bad Christmas. Australian stock options expired last Thursday, and Deutsche sent instructions not to exercise their in-the-money long positions. That’s like free money for the people who wrote these options. Of course that left people with an unexpected delta position to trade out of on Friday, but still yielded massive profits. At about 5PM, ASX claimed that they’d made an error and the options would be exercised. If you understand how the clearing system works, this is effectively impossible. The exchange was just making a poor attempt to cover for a big customer. Everyone who traded out of their stock unexpected stock positions would have been screwed, so people started talking to their lawyers. Final word on Friday night was that the error stands. So Deutsche was santa for a lot of people.
how many people left in tibra sydney office? And It’s nothing to do with company’s ambition and everything to do with them facing upto realities of the situation. If you prefer Eclipse, by all means, go and join them.
How much did DB drop in all this?
Fuck man, can’t you read? S/he says right there: 28 people left at Tibra Bondi.
lol too bad Tibra didn’t wait a few more months to get out of Aus stocks, or Santa might have given them a present, too
Tibra has two offices in Aus. How many people are left at Austiner? Just Tim?
Tim wouldn’t be able to survive without his entourage. I think he still has at least Begg, Wadey, Kingy, Jacky, Mazur and Morris to keep him company. There are probably a dozen of them all up.
Jez, calm down fella, i clearly don’t know that sydney office is the bondi office, i thought wollongong was bondi office, you are not still upset with me are you, let’s kiss and make up, it’s the time of the year
Any clue on how much DB lost on all of this ? Closer to 20 mil ?
Big year for Optv and IMC. Just for being in the market globally and not doing anything stupid
20 mil, okay, couple of people get fired at db, next
Very bad year for Tibra and Source Capital. Just for being in the market globally and not doing anything stupid
(excluding management decisions eg trying to just steal strategies from other shops by hiring senior traders, running a trading business is not so trivial after all….)
no, it’s very trivial, hire senior trading talent with 5 year+ experience, give them good pnl cut and try to grab as much knowledge out of them before they throw in the towel
Why was Wim den Hartog fired from IMC and who fired him?
one speculation is that he was reporting to rob n pot and they kinda saw through his usefulness, so the exit door was at the end of the corridor, best wishes
Tibra HR are doing some nice work with the fake glassdoor reviews lately
well, if somebody doesn’t do their actual research and instead depend just on glassdoor, then what’s the harm, he would think tibra is a great opportunity and so be it
The secrets of Source Capital’s trading strategies are now available online and for free:
bit.ly/JOsoRv
Great thesis, congratulations. Successfully repeating the definitions of variance and correlation. Well done
thanks, nice Christmas present. Downloaded everything, who knows how long this link will still work
you can print all secret strategies in the front page of wall street journal and it still wouldn’t affect your profitability, if you don’t understand why, just ask
as for the pdf, it looks like an academic piece of work by source md from 15 years ago, what does it bring new to the mix?
Why?
go look in a mirror and check the size of your ego
Bad times for the dudes at white box
white box, the trading shop in aussie? how much did they drop?
where did they lose money?
Sounds like a fake alarm
This report from Source Capital is completely useless from a practical trading perspective.
It is a paste and copy of completely unrealistic market models used 15 years ago and legitimated only by the fact
that other academics, who never earned 1 dollar in trading, wrote about them. It is a typical quant thesis, full of more or less random assumptions leading
to random theorems and formulas (although logically and rigorously derived) in which math is used to hide the fact that no knowledge in respect to pricing has been gained.
Chapter 6 is interesting, from a first look it tries to develop some theory on technical analysis, the core of automated trading. The conclusion is trivial: use exponential moving average rules (sometimes called Kalman filter to make it sound more complex) in either a trend-following or mean reverting way. One does not need any complex model, theorem, or superior insight to reach such a conclusion.
The author claims to be “the happy sole user of this software” and to trade “professionally at the EUREX”, maybe at the time of this writing the exponential moving average trend-following rule on Eurex was a profitable trading strategy, but not anymore today, unfortunately. Or maybe there are other trading concepts and rules, where the math is too trivial to be published in a thesis? Or maybe the author does not want to disclose the trading strategies making real money? Whatever the answer, the conclusion is that this report is irrelevant in respect to any trading strategy which can make real money.
Jesus, it’s not a report from source, the company was founded much later in 2004
this is just the usual useless student summary of existing paradigm, except in this case the student is a source md
and as for your quest on other people’s secrets, the game is going to change in 6 months time anyways, so keep slogging hard if you like to stay relevant
Hello, Nostradamus met je bek
what’s happening in 6 months?
when are options on bitcoin going to come in?????
options came long time ago, where are you living?
you don’t have to be Nostradamus to predict that financial markets keeps evolving constantly and just because you can predict that doesn’t mean you can predict when and what exactly is going to happen
Optiver settled with tibra, i hear. Can anyone confirm?
lol, optiver likely realised some settlement now is better than nothing later when tibra goes bankrupt, how much cash was paid out?
